scripture…

I thought the addition of Sarah Palin to the Republican corner was a smart move of sorts, and from what I heard and briefly read about her, I was even more convinced.  But I didn’t anticipate that a segment of the religious American vote would be so opposed.  It seems Scripture isn’t too favorable of women in office.  Even worse than that, is that this opinion is based on the biblical order of authority …which goes something like God, then Christ, then Man and then Woman.  One of the blogs that I occasionally visit referenced an older post that details this mindset.

In the referenced article, the author makes the statement “…these questions (regarding women in politics) can only be answered from Scripture. Mere human opinion or reason is not sufficient for the Christian. The Word of God is the only infallible, authoritative standard for directing us into the paths of righteousness.

What I find interesting is that the author (William Einwechter) uses this same mere opinion and reason to validate his belief on what scripture remarks.  Isn’t it illogical to on one hand say that man must abandon mere opinion and reason, while on the other hand use this same opinion and reason to interpret that very scripture …and in a way that advances your viewpoint?

The idea that the Bible is the word of God often escapes the fact that the words themselves, although divinely inspired, were physically written by man.  Of course these words alone are insufficient to instill faith, yet at the same time, they exclusively form its foundation.  It doesn’t make sense, from a ‘faithless’ perspective such as my own, to have words provide meaning to something that is invariably wordless?  Love, for example, can be argued as wordless …but it’s accepted as a generality that is not based on a specific, written set of guidelines to be followed to a ‘T’.  Can faith exist the same way?

Yet the bible is still there – and scripture is the foundation of Christian faith.  Unfortunately though, according to some, a true Christian needn’t avail themselves of mere reason and opinion to understand certain complexities in life …they simply need faith, and to read scripture as it’s laid out – word for word.

Sufficiently, I presume.

I agree with that first part about the bible not being too favorable of women in the office. I think man is the spiritual leader, whether it be a husband of his house hold or a leader of our country. I think if you cant be a spiritual leader and spiritually lead our country in the right direction, then what the heck else matters? Personally, I think as far as the war in Iraq, employment and all those other things go, God will take care of it all when a leader steps up who puts their trust and faith in God alone. If an end comes to the war in Iraq, but the leader of our country isnt seeking after God, there is just going to be something else to go wrong in our country. I think salvation is also more important, and with Obama, I think more are going hell. Pretty sad!

Wow… I don’t think anyone could have read less into an article than the girl above.

I mean… wow… Did she think you were actually agreeing with the so-called scripture that women shouldn’t be in office? Perhaps a head shaking and re-reading is in order.

Or perhaps she’s what they call in the blogosphere a troll… searching for phrases in blogs, not reading the post and then spouting their righteous rhetoric.

Or perhaps it looks like this may be an auto-commenter… spammerrrific baby.
