26 11 2007Yep, I changed my masthead. It was too gloomy. I don’t know what my obsession with gloominess is at times, but it’s not really me. Maybe I like to think I’m gloomy just to pretend that I’ve got something to be gloomy about. But I don’t …not anything really worthy of gloominess that is. So there. In replacement is a nice picture of a bug! Yea for bugs! …and if you don’t like bugs then avert your eyes. Ooops, too late. Sorry. Now you have something to be gloomy about.
Remember in the old days when you’d go out and buy a record/tape/cd because you wanted to get this new song, then you bought the album for 10/15/20 bucks and everything sucked except for that one tune and maybe one or two others that were kinda ok. Remember? Huh? *smiling* Then along came the internet and now you get that choice of buying just that single song that you like. Sweet deal eh! Sure it is …but then you do occasionally miss out on some other stuff by that artist that might be worthy of getting. Anyway, the internet is all about change kids (much like me and my new bug picture) and one of the neat things musically is the freedom for artists to chart their own path - or, at least, have a LOT more say in how things are done. Take Saul Williams for example.
I know absolutely nothing about him aside from the fact that he teamed up with NIN’s Trent Reznor and put out an album called The Inevitable Rise And Liberation of Niggytardust! Musically speaking it’s pretty fun. Explicit lyrics on occasion, but that’s youth for you. I thought at times (when singing) he kinda merges a Seal thing with the Living Color guy - his narration reminded of Minister Faust, but sound wise it’s really inspirational. Every listen I tend to come away with different ideas …now I just have to remember to remember what they are. *smiles again* To the point of my post now - the delivery! You’ve got two choices on how to get this music: A) download standard quality mp3’s (all 15) along with a liner/pdf file with all the goodies …FREE. Or, B) download better quality mp3’s (all 15) along with a liner/pdf file with all the goodies …for $5. You pick. Free or $5. What’s $5 now a days anyway, maybe 2 slurpees and a bag of nibs? *kinda laughing* What it is in relation to the ‘good ol days’, is about $4 more than the artist would receive if the same album was delivered via your standard heavyweight music corporation.
That’s good for the artist kids. It’s good for music. It’s good for the fans (or soon to be fans) and it’s good for 7-11’s because you still have money to spend on an extra chocolate bar for your friend.

hey, i just stumbled on ur blog….Saul Williams is like one of my fav poets and lyricists…he’s just absolutely fabulous when it comes to words and making poetry appeasing to the ears….you have to listen to “sermon on the mount of the inevitable” on youtube.
